So you’ve decided to start your own band? That’s awesome! Congratulations! An exciting adventure is ahead of you and these tips might help you on your journey.
1. Have a Vision
It all starts with why – what drives you and motivates you? Why do you want to start a band? It’s all well and good saying to yourself, “right, that’s it! I want to do it” but do you have a clear vision? Ask yourself the following questions to make sure you’re on the right path:
- What bands influence me?
- What music styles do I like?
- What instruments do I want in my band?
- What instruments fill me with joy?
The above questions should help you find your groove and align your talent with a genre that you already like.
Finding the right band members can prove difficult. Essentially, you need to make sure that they share your vision. Many successful bands are formed through an already existing friendship, which means you’re already likely interested in the same music. If that’s not the case, ask for helping in finding members. Advertise in local papers and especially use social media! Trawl through Youtube and Instagram and use Facebook groups to find that undiscovered talent.
3. Ask for Help
Simply asking friends and family for help and support can prove to be powerful, you never know what might come to fruition – unused instruments, free time in a recording studio and perhaps the missing band member you’ve been desperately searching for. After all, if you don’t ask, you don’t get!
4. Play to Your Strengths
If you have the vocal skills of a frog, there’s no point in wasting your cash in singing lessons. Instead, find an exceptional singer. It could be that you have an ear for music and creating tracks, but are unable to play an instrument. If that’s the case, don’t waste time learning an instrument, use your skills to develop your first track and searching for help!
Wishing you massive success with your new band!
